The danger of thinking positive
Yesterday I was on a coaching call with
one of my mentees to plan her 2021.
She was all hopeful and positive.
But my first question shocked her.
“Why did you fail to achieve
your goals this year?”
Silence.
“Eric, can we not talk about why I fail
cos it will sound like I am justifying
my poor results.”
This time, I was shocked!
I didn’t expect her to answer this way.
But upon reflection, I understand why.
We are conditioned to think positive…
… to always look on the bright side.
Forget about your hurting past.
Focus on the hopeful future.
But here’s the problem.
If you don’t learn the lessons well,
history is going to repeat itself!
Just because we are entering a new
year, doesn’t mean that life will change
for the better.
It is the same old you going through
the brand new year.
Unless you know why you didn’t
achieve your business goal in 2020,
you will STILL not be able to achieve
your business goals in 2021.
We still have some time before 2021.
Here’s what I suggest you do.
Block time to reflect on 2020.
Here are three questions to guide you.
1. What was your biggest win in 2020?
2. What were your biggest loss in 2020?
3. For every win and loss, what was
the lesson that came with it?
I am going to do the same reflection.
Will you like to know mine?
If yes, REPLY to this post with the
answers to Q1-3.
And I will share with you mine as well.
Go on.
Reflect on 2020!
Your #1 fan,
Eric Feng
