What spiderman and wang lee hom have in common

Unless you are living under the rock,

you probably have watched the latest

Spiderman movie (OMG!) and read about

Wang Lee Hom’s scandal (OMGGGGG!)

Strangely, Peter Parker and Wang Lee Hom

have a few things in common.

1. Both of them have huge fanbases.

(I happen to be a fan of both of them)

2. Both of them are dominating the news

and dinner conversations right now.

3. Both of them have ‘no way home’.

Here comes the most important commonality.

Both of them are teaching us

a similar lesson:

With great power comes great responsibility.

Peter Parker has super powers.

Wang Lee Hom has super influence.

And with that, comes a lot of expectations

from the public to do good with what they

have been given.

Peter Parker has to learn it the hard way

when he lost Uncle Ben (in the first series

of Spiderman).

Lee Hom is now learning the lesson too.

As of this email, he has lost millions of dollars

worth of business sponsorships.

General sentiments towards his action

aren’t looking very good either.

Even Jay Chou unfollowed him.

As the world hate on Lee Hom,

it got me thinking.

Am I ready for fame?

Am I ready for wealth?

Am I ready to be a person of mega influence?

Because with all the fame, wealth and

influence, I am expected to do good with it.

But can I wear the weight of

these expectations?

I am afterall a mere human being.

I have flaws.

I have my weaknesses.

I have a dark side.

And then it hit me.

If you want to be successful in the short term,

work on your charisma.

If you want to be successful in the medium

term, work on your competence.

If you want to be successful in the long term,

work on your character.

Character traits like integrity, compassion and

humility. These traits give you staying power.

So as you work on your fame, wealth and

influence, remember to work on your

character too.

Only then can you KEEP your fame, wealth

and influence – and do massive good with

all that you have been given.

As the cautionary saying goes:

When the light on you is brighter than

the light in you, you will burn.

Remember this as you work on your fame,

wealth and influence in 2022!

Your #1 fan,

Eric Feng

P.S. I am planning to write to you more often

because I really want you to do well.

So here’s the plan.

On weekends (likely Sat), I will send an email

relating to topics on self-mastery. Many of

these emails will be based on my personal

experiences and observations.

On Thursdays, I will send you emails that

are more business related. Focus will be on

helping you deal with the unique challenges

of 2022.

(1) Omicron variant and the possible lockdown

(2) Growing popularity of robo-advisors

(3) Changing consumer values because of

the pandemic (in particular with millennials

and Gen Z, the digital native)

(4) Increasing competition in your industry

(competition including influencers trying to

steal market share away from you)

(5) Massive changes to social media platforms

and how we must adapt to the ever-changing

algorithm and content preferences

STOP CARING ABOUT THE LIKES, SHARES AND VIEWS...

These are just fruits.

If a farmer wants his tree to bear fruits, he does not focus on the fruits. He focus on the soil, the water and the sun.

Likewise if you want your social media tree to bear fruits (likes, shares, views), focus on the soil, the water and the sun.
